On the eve of my book being launched to the world I am still drawn to the simple question “why the inner child?” Truth be told, when I sat down to first pen my life story and the journey of “me,” I had no idea it would evolve into a crusade to reconnect with my younger self. Nor did I grasp the power that would stem from that simple reconnection, shaping every future step of my life with a beautiful dance of old and young perception. The importance of our younger selves has never been more clear and I dare say more needed than ever. We all want happiness and I for one believe it lies at the end of an outstretched hand.
As adults we are all bound by one simple quality, namely we were all geniuses at one point in our lives. We were all children, Beethovens, with the ability to create our own “Ode to Joy” on a daily basis. Never were we so incontrol of the moment when the air of freedom blew in each and every day. Our playground was the launchpad of dreams. And with it life was devoid of expectation and the comparison culture of today’s status quo militia. But something happened to each of us when we walked through the door of adulthood and were given the rule book of life by which we “must” live. It was at that moment when a fissure arose between the truth that lay in our younger selves and the adult living for what everyone and everything deemed important. We lost sight of our child within as the ego of expectation and entitlement blossomed. Buy this, do this, save this, don’t do this… the list is endless. And the damage - catastrophic. The dream for many has vanished. Well, it is time to reconnect to the true essence of “us” and I believe that lies within the innocence of yesteryear. ‘What If.’ Two simple words from youth that held power over the adventures of our younger selves as they would unfold each day. On the other side of those two words lived a fearless world that was ours for the taking and our canvas to create with. Creativity is the byproduct of curiosity, wonder, and imagination… just a few of my younger qualities that I am blessed to have reconnected to. And when I grabbed hold of that little hand, “possibility” began to flourish once more. That possibility now lives within each adult moment between the moments. The young me knew. The old me forgot. Flip the script and realize that each moment becomes a blessing of possibility, a micro dream to step into and feel the wonder of creation. That is the sweet elixir of life, being present and creating magic in the moments of the day. This ‘possibility formula’ can be applied to all facets of your life. Try it and join us in the sandbox each and every day. -James and Little Jimmy
